SURE FAQ

SURE FAQ

Are international students eligible?

Yes, SURE is for both international and domestic University of Michigan students.

I am from another university, am I eligible to apply?

The SURE Program is only open to undergraduate applicants who are enrolled at the University of Michigan, Universidad de Monterrey, or Tecnológico de Monterrey.

The application says I must be of Junior standing to be eligible for the program. I am currently a freshman but will have enough credits to classify as a junior by the start of the program, am I eligible?

Yes, as long as you have completed 55+ credits you are of junior standing and are eligible for the SURE Program.

When does the application become available?

The application is now available for Summer 2019 program.

When is the last day to complete the application?

The application must be completed by January 15, 2019.

I would like to take a class during the Spring of Summer semester. Can I still participate in the SURE program?

As long as taking a class does not prevent you from working full-time and fulfilling the requirements set forth by the SURE faculty advisor/department, you can explore the option of taking a class. If a student is selected for the SURE Program and would like to take a class, it is not recommended that the student carry a full-time course load while participating full-time in the SURE Program.

The website says the students must participate in the SURE Program for 10-12 weeks, but the program runs from the beginning of May until the end of August which is 16 weeks. I’m confused, can you clarify that for me?

Students are expected to work for 10-12 weeks during the summer between the listed program dates. This allows for flexibility if students have planned vacations during the summer. If students are away from Ann Arbor for more than two consecutive weeks during these dates, they are not eligible to participate in the SURE Program.

Is the SURE Program binding? Am I required to participate if I am selected for the program?

If students are accepted into the SURE Program, they are given a window of time to accept or decline that offer. This time is meant to give students the opportunity to weigh all options that may be available to them for the summer. We don’t encourage students to accept a SURE offer if there is a strong likelihood they are more interested in another opportunity that would result in them wanting to leave the SURE Program.

I have submitted my application, do I need to contact the corresponding faculty directly?

Each department handles the application process differently. You should reach out to your department’s SURE contact and inquire if this is necessary.

I’m not sure how to obtain a copy of my unofficial transcript and upload it to my application.  How can this be done?

Students can access a copy of their unofficial transcripts in the Student Business section of Wolverine Access. You will then need to print or save your unofficial transcript as a PDF and upload it to your SURE application.
